Simple Body Oils

Simple homemade oil blends for everyday body care.

5 min read

Body lotion is one of those things most of us buy without thinking much about it. But a simple homemade body oil — made with a carrier oil you enjoy and a few drops of essential oil if you like — can be just as effective, far simpler in its ingredients, and surprisingly pleasant to make.

Carrier oils like jojoba, sweet almond, and fractionated coconut oil absorb well into the skin and have a long shelf life. They can be used on their own or blended with a small amount of essential oil for fragrance.

The beauty of a simple body oil is that it requires almost no equipment, very few ingredients, and very little time. A small amber glass bottle, a carrier oil you enjoy, and a few drops of something that smells like calm — that is often enough.

1. Quiet Glow Body Oil

A simple everyday body oil for after the shower:

2oz Jojoba Oil

1oz Sweet Almond Oil

5-6 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Ritual:

After a shower or bath, put a small amount in the palms, warm it between your hands, and slowly massage it into your skin while it’s still slightly damp.

“Don’t rush through the ordinary acts of caring for yourself.  Sometimes the ritual is the point.”

2.  Evening Lavender Body Oil

A calming oil for an evening wind-down:

2 oz Jojoba Oil

1 oz Apricot Kernel Oil

6 drops Lavender Essential Oil

2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Ritual:

Use a small amount on your hands, arms, shoulders, or legs before bed.  Take a few slow breaths while you apply it and let the day become quieter.

”There is nothing left to accomplish tonight.  You are allowed to simply be.”

*Applied after a shower while the skin is still slightly damp, a body oil absorbs quickly and leaves the skin feeling soft without heaviness. It is one of those small things that can make an ordinary part of the day feel a little more considered.
