Frankincense Face Oil

A simple botanical facial oil for a slower approach to skincare.

6 min read

There is something quietly satisfying about caring for your skin with something you made yourself — something with a short ingredient list, a familiar scent, and nothing you can't pronounce.

This is not a complicated skincare routine. It is a small, intentional act — a few minutes at the end of the day to slow down, pay attention, and care for yourself with something simple and real. Frankincense has a warm, resinous, slightly woody scent that feels grounding rather than floral. Combined with a nourishing carrier oil, it makes a facial oil that feels like a ritual rather than a task.

Instructions

01 — Combine the Carrier Oils

Pour the castor oil and jojoba oil into your clean glass dropper bottle using a small funnel. The jojoba thins the castor oil and makes the blend easier to press into your skin without feeling heavy.

02 — Add the Frankincense

Add 5 to 7 drops of frankincense essential oil directly into the bottle. Start with 5 drops if you prefer a lighter scent, and adjust from there once you've used it a few times.

03 — Blend

Close the bottle tightly and shake it gently for a few seconds to blend the oils together. That's it. Your oil is ready to use.

04 — Apply to Damp Skin

Mist your face lightly with water or a gentle toner, then place 2 to 3 drops of the oil blend onto your fingertips. Warm it between your palms for a moment, then press it gently into your damp skin using slow, upward motions. Damp skin helps the oil absorb more easily.

The Evening Ritual

The recipe is simple. What you do with it can be something more.

In the evening, after the day is finished, take a few minutes to cleanse your face, apply the oil slowly, and let that small act be the transition between the day you've had and the night you're entering. Breathe while you do it. Notice the warmth of your hands. Notice the scent. Let the day settle.

This is what it means to turn an ordinary skincare routine into something intentional — not by making it more complicated, but by bringing your full attention to something you were already doing.

A Moment to Reflect

There is a difference between rushing through self-care and actually being present for it.

When we rush, we complete the task. We cleanse, we apply, we move on. The skin is cared for, technically. But something else is missed — the quiet, the pause, the small acknowledgment that you are worth a few unhurried minutes.

Caring for yourself doesn't have to be another item on a list. It can be a moment of genuine attention — a few minutes where you are not managing anything, not planning anything, not getting ready for the next thing. Just here, with your hands on your face, breathing slowly, letting the day go.

Make it. Use it. Slow down. Pay attention.
